Moving into a new place is always a traumatic experience. More so, if one settled in a place for a long time and has become comfortable with the place. The thought of packing everything and shifting all the accumulated stuff can give one nightmare. Over the years, we collect so many things, which adorn our homes that, at the time of moving, we get bogged down trying to pack everything. If you are facing the same situation, fear not. Take a deep breath and read on; with a little patience and systematic effort, you can turn your shifting way into a smooth and painless one.
Shifting involves a lot of planning and preparation. If one already has charge of their new home, first do a recce and try to figure out where and how your existing furniture can fit in; make notes every step of the way. This will streamline everything, and make it easier, eventually at the time of shifting. Planning the layout can help one pack accordingly and makes the whole process fast and easy. Check all systems, before moving in, such as the electrical, plumbing, drainages, etc. This will confirm your transit is an easy and comfortable one. If anything is not working or requires repair, then get it done, preferably before moving into the new property.
Now once everything is ready one can start packing. Nowadays, unlike before people have two options. One Can either pack themselves or can leave the job with Packers and Movers. Many companies do the entire gamut of packing your goods and transporting them to your new home. These are professionals who come armed with all the necessary types of equipment, such as cartons, boxes, tapes, etc. From your TV to Glassware to books and furniture, they pack everything and transport it to the desired place.
By hiring such professionals; one can have the comfort of just standing back and relaxing and watching the entire process done for them. However, the flip side is that all said and done these people could not care less about your precious Bone China or Paintings. They are rough and always in a hurry while doing the job.
Do not be surprised to find your well-maintained antique table with a large crack along its side, after they transport it. Though many do give you guarantees, there are many Packers and Movers who are rather rough at handling home goods. Before you hire one, make inquiries and better still find one through references from relatives and friends.
If you are someone who is not too happy about some strangers handling your goods and prefers to pack your stuff, it is not all that a big deal, if you plan properly and start well in advance. First, make a list and segregate items into categories, such as furniture, Breakables, Clothes, etc. Mark all delicate and breakable goods and put them in hardback cartons with adequate insulation. Put large labels on these boxes mentioning they contain glass. Similarly, pack all your goods in boxes, marking which carton holds what. By making notes, as to which room they will go into, one can find unpacking a lot easier.
Or else you will end up having to hunt for each item and find yourself opening carton after carton randomly. Keep relevant and immediate-use items, such as medicines and children’s stuff, and pet food in separate bags, which you can carry yourself. This will ensure that you can attend to emergencies immediately. Once you have packed and all goods are loaded and ready to go, take one last look around in case you have left anything behind.
Say your Goodbyes and you can look forward to an exciting time ahead. With a little patience, planning, and effort, you can make your shift into a new place an easy one and in fact, even enjoy it as an adventure
