Changing the look of your bathroom cabinets can be a great idea, especially if you want to make them the focal point of the space or if you want them to complement the existing décor and theme of your bathroom. One of the options you might want to consider would be to give your bathroom cabinets an antique look. Antiquing your bathroom cabinets is an easy way to instantly change the look of your bathroom without having to spend a fortune. Here are the steps that you can follow to do this.
- Take out the doors and drawers, including the hardware of the doors, of your bathroom cabinets. Make sure that you would be marking them so that it would be easy for you to put them back.
- You can then wash the faces and doors of the cabinets using a solution of warm water and some dishwashing liquid or mild detergent. Avoid using a large amount of water, as this can cause damage to the wood. After washing them, wipe the cabinets dry using a clean and lint-free piece of cloth.
- Determine whether you want to paint or stain the cabinets. Both of these finishes can be antiqued. To help you in making a decision, consider the finishes of the other surfaces in the bathroom and your personal taste.
- The next thing you need to do would be to prepare the faces, doors, and drawers of the cabinets by sanding them. Make sure to wipe away any sawdust.

- You can then choose the stain color that you would be used to create the antiqued look. Your decision should be based on how dark you would like the antique effect to appear. To make sure that you would be getting the results you want, you might want to try the antiquing method you want to use on a piece of wood before you do it on the cabinet.
- Apply the stain on the cabinet doors, drawers, and base. Make sure that you would be wiping the stain right away using a soft cloth. The aged or antique look would be created since some of the stains would be left behind. Continue to apply and wipe the stain up until you are able to get your desired antique look. If you want, you can get a more worn look by sanding the doors and the cabinets more.
- You can then put back the doors and drawers. If desired, you can also opt to install new hardware that would match the resulting look of your antiqued cabinets.
